Villa Mia is a white house on the hillside above Gündoğan bay, with a pool in front of it and nothing but sea beyond.
Every summer since 2007 it has been where our family gathers: children growing up in the pool, parents on the terrace, friends arriving with suitcases and leaving with a tan and a plan to come back. Almost twenty summers on, the mornings still start the same way — coffee on the terrace, the bay flat as glass, the islands floating in the haze.
Walk through the villa
Gündoğan is the peninsula's unhurried north coast: a long public beach, restaurant jetties over the water, boats going out to Rabbit Island in the morning, and a Wednesday market that still smells of tomatoes and thyme.
Turn left out of the village and you're in Yalıkavak — the world's best superyacht marina, Zuma and Nusr-Et on the quay, a Thursday bazaar and windmills on the ridge. Turn right and Türkbükü's beach clubs are twenty minutes away. Bodrum, with its crusader castle and old harbour, is half an hour.
